What is a consultation like?
A consultation is a physician’s evaluation, based on review of your history, medical records and physical findings, of the state of your health or health problems.
Often, patients have other issues, not necessarily related to their intestinal tract, that should be addressed, either by Dr. Berger or the patient’s primary care provider. Since Dr. Berger has extensive training in Internal Medicine and Integrative, or wellness medicine, he can oftentimes discover or help correctly diagnose an existing or unrecognized problem.
Consultations may be in depth, evaluating all aspects of your health, or some complex issue; or minimal, for example just ensuring that you are healthy enough for a simple procedure such as a colonoscopy. At Center for Health, all patients receive at least a minimal consultation immediately prior to their procedure to ensure that they are appropriate candidates for the planned colonoscopy, upper endoscopy etc.
Following your procedure, Dr. Berger will discuss the specific findings of the procedure as well as any issues regarding your health or health problems that may need to be addressed. You will receive a full written set of instructions and diagnoses to take home with you.
If you require further referral to another specialist, Dr. Berger will either speak to your primary care physician about making a referral or refer you to someone himself. Because Dr. Berger has practiced in the Tidewater area for over 31 years, he is able to suggest a number of high quality, capable specialists in the event that you need further specialized evaluation or management.
If you have any further questions, we encourage you to call us back at any time (757-412-4919) to speak with one of the staff or Dr. Berger.
